2019 Wajima Taisai Was The Best Ever! See Why…
I made a short preview video of what the Wajima Taisai, or Kiriko Grand Festival is like. It takes place every year on August 22-25 in Wajima, Ishikawa.
This year was special because it was Ashley’s first time to participate in the festival as an actual participant, instead of an onlooker. We ate great food, met some awesome people and played taiko and carried the kiriko into the night for about 6-7 hours!
By the time, the festival was over, we were spent physically and mentally, but boy did it give us a big sense of accomplishment. Being a festival participant is NOT to be taken likely because you are part of a team of kiriko carriers, leads, guides, taiko players, fue players and set-up and clean-up staff. It is definitely a community bonding festival and a perfect excuse to just let it all out!
