Here is the first part of the demonstration, Suwariwaza techniques by Mitsuteru Ueshiba, Hombu Dojo Cho.

After the Shinobukai at the Hombu dojo that commemorates O’sensei Morihei Ueshiba’s death on April 26th, the Aiki Jinja Taisai is held yearly in Iwama 3 days later, on April 29th.
It is one of the most important events in Aikikai’s yearly calendar, as it commemorates both the death of the founder Morihei Ueshiba and his son, the first Doshu Kisshomaruy Ueshiba (who passed away on January 4, 1999).
The Aiki Jinja is a small shrine, but it was built by the founder, and its proximity to the Iwama Dojo, where he spent years refining his techniques, makes the place very special to all of us, Aikidoists.

The ceremony starts at 11 am and ends shortly after noon, by a demonstration led by Moriteru Ueshiba (Doshu) and Mitsuteru Ueshiba (Waka-sensei, Hombu Dojocho).
Soon after the demonstration, we all gather in the Dojo’s garden for a picnic, an occasion to share food, sake, and good memories.

The event always gathers a few hundred practitioners, from many places in Japan, but also foreigners living here or in a short training stay.
After the picnic, some even attempt to climb the Atagosan, a small mountain nearby that surely pleased Morihei Ueshiba for its beauty and for the shrine that sits on top of it.

Excuse us for the quality of the video, the shooting conditions for such events are not as good as we would like them to be.
We’ve done our best, and worked a lot in post-production to make the best of it.
Please enjoy.
